Frequently Asked Questions
Before your visit, you may have a few additional questions. Below are helpful answers to guide you.
Can you go straight to an orthodontist?
Yes. An orthodontist is a specialist you can see directly, and no dentist referral is required to schedule an exam at Cedar Park Smiles. Many patients are referred by their family dentist, and just as many call us on their own after noticing crowding, a bite that feels off, or a permanent tooth that has not come in. Either route is normal. Most dental insurance plans also do not require a referral for orthodontic benefits, though it is worth checking your own plan. What you cannot do is walk in and get braces the same hour, because treatment starts with an exam and a diagnosis.
How long does the first appointment take?
Most initial consultations last between 45 minutes and one hour, depending on whether diagnostic records are taken.
Can parents attend the appointment?
Yes. We encourage parents or guardians to attend so everyone understands the recommended treatment plan.
Will I start treatment the same day?
In some cases, treatment can begin the same day, depending on scheduling and readiness. This will be discussed during your visit.
Will I know if I am ready to begin treatment?
Yes. Dr. Taylor will clearly explain whether it is the right time to start or whether monitoring growth is the better call.
